Are Lawyers Doctors, too?

February 28th, 2009  |  Published in Information, Law

This is a question many have asked themself before if they have heard of the degree that a Lawyer receives. The degree is called “Juris Doctor”.

According to this article written by Kathleen Maher, a lawyer with the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility, lawyers may use the Title “Doctor” if it is not prohibited in their state of Practice.

She writes:

The committee advised, however, that it may be misleading for a lawyer to use doctor in certain contexts, such as advertising legal services relating to medical malpractice, because of the possibility of misleading prospective clients about a lawyer’s qualifications and the results he or she might achieve. In those instances, the committee said, the advertising should include a prominent disclaimer and statement about the lawyer’s qualifications.

That’s a pretty good prescription to follow, at least in states where lawyers are not prohibited outright from calling themselves doctor.

Information for this topic is from the ABA’s Online journal at ABANet.Org.

Why I Can’t Provide Support After 7

October 24th, 2008  |  Published in Blog, Information, Life

Have you ever wondered why I can’t provide support on TalkShoe after 7PM EST Monday thru Friday during the school year?

New York state limits the hours I can work when school is in session. Meaning, I can work between the hours of 7am to 7PM during the week and up to 3 hours on a school day (Mon-Fri) and up to 8 hours on a non school day (Holidays, Vacations, Weekends). This is as long as I do not work more than 6 days per week or more than 40 hours a week.

During the summer this is different and I can work 7am to 9pm and up to 8 hours on a given day, 6 days per week and up to 40 hours per week.

This should help to eliminate any questions on why I can not provide support on TalkShoe after 7pm during the school week.

If you have any questions on this, leave a comment below.

Tom, the MySpace Co-Founder, Hacker

August 30th, 2008  |  Published in Blog, Information

All of you that use MySpace, probably know of Tom. Well, today I read a blog post on TechCrunch about him lying about his age on MySpace along with reading that he was a hacker when he was fourteen, couldn’t be arrested (he was a minor). Here’s a quote from the article:

Now we’ve learned a much more colorful part of Anderson’s history: In 1985, when he was fourteen and in high school in Escondido, California, Anderson was subject to one of the largest FBI raids in California history after hacking into a Chase Manhattan Bank computer system and subsequently showing his friends how to do it. He was never arrested because he was a minor, but the FBI confiscated all of his computer equipment and some newspaper accounts of the incident stated incorrectly (see image below from a 1986 LA Times story) that he was “convicted in federal court of computer hacking and placed on probation” (the statements were corrected in subsequent articles). Anderson used the hacker name “Lord Flathead.”

Not Available: This Week…

July 28th, 2008  |  Published in Blog, Information, Life

I hope everyone has had a great month of July. I haven’t posted lately and this is due to me being so busy with my Job, podcasts and many other things.

I am here to really, just let you all know that I will not be online for a minimum of 24 hours and an unknown maximum, not likely more than 2 weeks, but you never know. Why? Well, as I look around at 3pm I saw that my Mom’s van had pulled into the driveway, but it wasn’t my Mom driving. It was my Dad. As they walked towards the house I noticed that my mom had a Hospital tag around her wrist and a bandage on the other hand. I asked whats wrong and why are you home so early? And then I found out that they were at the hospital since 8:00 this morning.

I’d like to specifically thank all of the thoughts and praires from all of my online friends! It means a lot to me and my family.

With that said, this means that I will not be working for the next week or So. Okay. This also means that the Team in Pittsburgh will be keeping Support running while I am not available. Thanks to Dave and the rest at HQ, you guys are making it so that users can keep on getting support while I am away. THANKS! Please do not call my Phone Line for TalkShoe Support for the next week or so. Urgent issues should be reported directly to Technical Support.

Thank you for your thoughts, praires and support throughout this! I’ll be back online soon enough and I do use Ping.Fm and Mobile IM, so I can still keep you updated while I am away from the Computer.

This does mean that if there is an episode of a podcast scheduled, it is canceled until the next episode would be. More details to come later this week… If you need to contact me, please use the Contact Form.
